What is Color Guard?
Color Guard is a combination of dance, performance art, and musical theatre that involves spinning equipment such as flags, sabres, and rifles. In the fall, the color guard performs with the marching band to help enhance the music and visual experience. In the winter, the guard performs alone and competes in numerous competitions throughout the season.
Who can Join Color Guard?
Any student can join Color Guard in grades 9th through 12th!
Do I need to try out for Color Guard?
No! You just need to sign up!
Do I need to be in Band class to participate in Color Guard?
No. You can select Color Guard which is a year round class that is separate from Band Class.
When does Color Guard Practice?
During the Fall, the Color Guard follows generally the same schedule as Varsity Band. In the Spring (Winter Guard), the guard practices during the week after school.
Why should I join Color Guard?
Team members of the James Bowie Color Guard become part of a very close-knit group of students who support one another and develop friendships which last a lifetime. They develop life skills that help them succeed in high school and college. Color guard teaches students hard work, dedication, a passion for performing, and it's so much fun!
